What is SEER rating?
A SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) which indicates how efficient your unit is utilizing electricity indicates the efficiency of cooling. For example, the higher the number the greater the efficiency. Prior to 1992, the typical SEER rating for units manufactured is approximately 6.0, however in 1992; government established a standard minimum cooling efficiency for new homes to be at 10.0 SEER. At a minimum SEER rating of 13.0 with a maximum of 20.0 is standard in all high-efficiency units.
What factors contribute to the comfort of my home?
How often should my filters be cleaned or replaced?
The experts of Andrade Heating & Air Conditioning recommend all standard 1-inch thick filters should be checked once a month. Depending on how much the system is used will determine the frequency of replacement.
Should my thermostat be set to "Auto" or "On"?
For the best possible efficiency results your thermostat should stay in the "Auto" position.
How exactly does an air conditioning system work to properly cool my home?
An air conditioning system actually has two parts which partner together to work together. The outdoor unit is where the liquid refrigerant is contained and the indoor coil is where the refrigerant is distributed. As the air transports itself across the coil the refrigerant removes the heat from the air. Consequently, the air conditioner not only cools but also dehumidifies the air.
How often should my air conditioning system receive a general maintenance checkup?
You typically have much better efficiency results if your air conditioning system has a preventative maintenance check up at least once a year. Please feel free to contact Andrade Heating & Air Conditioning regarding our extensive annual maintenance program that we offer.
Do you have an emergency or "after hours" service if I need you?
Absolutely! At Andrade Heating & Air Conditioning our customer's comfort and safety is very important. If needed, just give us a call and we will be at your service as soon as possible!
What is the most efficient setting for my thermostat?
The best setting for heating is the lowest temperature at which you are comfortable. Most people are comfortable at a setting of 68 to 70 degrees, and each degree higher than that can increase your heating cost by 1-2%. For cooling, the best setting is the highest temperature at which you are comfortable. We recommend 77 degrees when you are at home and 80 degrees while you are away. As a rule, raising the thermostat 2 degrees will reduce your cooling cost by approximately 5%.
Is a programmable thermostat worth the investment?
A programmable thermostat can reduce energy consumption by 16 to 25 percent, according to a study published in the ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers Journal.
How often should I have my system serviced?
Your heating and cooling system should be checked and maintained by a licensed air conditioning and heating technician at least once a year for each. Annual maintenance can extend the life of the system and also maintain optimum efficiency. Andrade Heating & Air Conditioning will be happy to set you up with our maintenance. Feel free to contact us today at 916-747-9882.
Should I get a bigger system?
Bigger is not always better. The new, high-efficiency systems that are now available are extremely effective at maintaining your comfort. Your system should be custom designed depending on the size of your home, your existing duct system, and your budget. This is determined by a formula known as load calculation. You should be leery of any company that recommends a larger system without first running a load calculation on your home.
What is a heat pump?
Heat pumps are comfort systems that use refrigerant to both cool and heat a house. When cooling, the heat pump transfers heat from the inside of the house to the outside, making the interior of the house cooler. When the outside air is cold, the heat pump reverses itself and transfers heat from the outside to the inside of the house. Heat pumps often utilize electric heat strips to supplement the transfer of heat and warm the interior of the house faster.
How does my heating and cooling system work?
Your air conditioning system is actually comprised of dual units. On the outside, you have a unit which stores refrigerant. As the coolant is transferred to the indoor unit, the cool air is transported throughout the home. This process not only removes the hot air but dehumidifies the air in the process.
How do I know when I should replace my system as opposed to repairing it?
When repairs begin to repeat themselves or when they are major, then it becomes more cost effective to replace the system. During your consultation, our experts will recommend the most cost effective solution to fit your needs. If replacement becomes the best long-term decision, you can have the peace of mind that Andrade Heating & Air Conditioning will customize your new system and provide a price that will remain affordable to your budgeting needs.
